Rolling Child Support Deductions (AU Only)

Description

A new deduction type called Child Support – Rolling has been added in this release to allow creation of deduction headers to facilitate deduction of child support payments where the amount that is to be deducted is a rolling amount that is specific to a payee rather than a fixed, net protected amount that is common to all payees who are required to have child support payments deducted from their earnings.

The Child Support – Rolling has deduction type is available when creating a new deduction header or editing an existing, unused deduction header. If the deduction type is set to the Child Support – Rolling option, the following will apply to the deduction header:

  • it is not possible to define a default rate of deduction

  • it is not possible to define a protected earnings value.

The Deduction Type field in the search header of the Agency Portal > Pay > Maintenance > Deduction Header > Deduction Header screen now also lists a Child Support – Rolling option to allow searching for existing deduction headers of that type.

To support reporting on rolling child support deductions, individually or along with standard child support deductions, the Deduction Type field on the Agency Portal > Pay > Reports > Pay Reports screen, which is available when the Deductions report is selected, now includes a Child Support – Rolling option and has been changed from a single-selection dropdown field to a multi-selection list, as highlighted in the example below.

Benefits

This enhancement supports deducting of child support payments for payees who are subject to a Section 72 A Notice, which requires the employer to deduct outstanding child support payments in instalments until the outstanding amount has been paid.

Configuration

Deduction headers are configured under Agency Portal > Pay > Maintenance > Deduction Header. On adding a new deduction header or editing an existing, unused deduction header the header can be configured for rolling child support deductions by selecting the Child Support – Rolling option in the Deduction Type field, as shown in the next example.

One or more sets of deduction settings must also be added to the deduction header before the deduction header is applied in any pay batches. For more information, see How to Create a New Deduction Header and How to Edit an Existing Deduction Header.

To apply a rolling child support deduction to a payee, a deduction must be added to the relevant payee record in Agency Portal > Pay > Payee > Payee Maintenance > Payee Entry > Deductions. Note that if a payee deduction is linked to a deduction header with a deduction type of Child Support – Rolling, the Rolling flag must be set on payee deduction, as highlighted in next example below, or you will be unable to save the deduction.
