Payslip Superannuation Enhancements (AU Only)

Description

Changes have been made to the Payslip Super document format layout component that is available for payslip formats that are created in Agency Portal > Maintenance > Portal Maintenance > Document Formats for the country of Australia to make the superannuation accrual information easier for payees to understand.

A new Contribution Type field is now available to be displayed within the Payslip Super layout component and is included by default when a new payslip format is created for Australia. This new field identifies the contribution type of each accrual that is listed and displays one of the following:

  • Super Guarantee – indicates that the accrual contributes towards the superannuation guarantee amount

  • Award – indicates that the accrual is an accrual mandated by an award/industrial agreement

  • Employer Additional – indicates that the accrual is because of additional superannuation paid by the employer over and above any mandated superannuation guarantee or award amount.

The existing Amount field previously showed the accrual amount as a running total for the calendar month in which the payment date, as identified on the payslip, falls. Now, the Amount field displays the amount of superannuation accrued during the period covered by the payslip only. This helps a payee identify how much superannuation has been accrued in the pay period itself.

Another new field, which is labelled Amount MTD, is now available to be displayed within the Payslip Super layout component and is included by default when a new payslip format is created for Australia. This new field displays what was previously displayed in the Amount field, which is a cumulative accrual for the calendar month-to-date.

The existing Amount Period TD field has also been enhanced so that, by default, the field will be labelled Amount Contribution Period TD so that the period refers to the contribution period as opposed to the pay period.

An example of the enhanced Payslip Super section on a payslip is shown below.

Benefits

This enhancement provides greater clarity to payees about how much superannuation they have accrued during a pay period and therefore will help to reduce the number of superannuation-related enquires that must be dealt with by payroll staff.

This enhancement also compliments the introduction of the Employer Superannuation Supplement document format type and the Superannuation Accruals report, which are designed to give payees more information about their superannuation accruals and to help payroll staff field superannuation-related enquires respectively.

Configuration

The new Contribution Type and Amount MTD fields will be included by default on all new payslip formats that are created for the country of Australia in Agency Portal > Maintenance > Portal Maintenance > Document Formats after upgrading. However, these fields will need to be manually added to any existing payslip formats if required.

Wherever the Contribution Type field is used on a payslip format, the superannuation transactions that will be displayed on the payslip will be split by contribution type. Since any historic payslip superannuation data will not have been split by contribution type, the following payslip superannuation fields will, by default, not include data for any historical accruals if the Contribution Type field is used in the layout:

  • Amount MTD

  • Amount Period TD

  • Amount YTD.

Therefore, wherever the abovementioned fields are included in the layout, those fields will only display values for superannuation transactions that are generated after upgrading to this release.

However, where necessary a script can be applied after upgrading to back fill the historical data, split by contribution type, so that the historical accruals will be correct. If you require this, please contact FastTrack Client Services and place a request.

The accrual transactions shown on a payslip will only be grouped by contribution type if the Contribution Type field is included in the format. Any existing payslip formats that do not use the Contribution Type field will continue to work as they did prior to the upgrade.
