Password Policy > New Stronger Password Settings
Description
We have expanded on our existing password settings, so you can ensure users are creating strong passwords. We have also re-organised the settings to group them in a more logical fashion.
The following settings have been added / amended within a new section labelled Password Strength:
Minimum Password length - this has replaced the existing ‘Min No of Characters’ setting and will be automatically flagged where true in your existing environment.
Password must contain at least one (heading)
Numeric Character - this has replaced the existing ‘Force Password Alphanum’ setting and will be automatically flagged where true in your existing environment. Where ticked, the user cannot save the password if there is not at least one numeric character in their password.
Lowercase Character - where ticked, the user cannot save the password if it does not contain at least one lowercase character. Note: Added in V12.10 Patch 1
Uppercase Character - where ticked, the user cannot save the password if it does not contain at least one uppercase alpha character.
Symbol Using !@#$%^&*() - where ticked, the user cannot save the password if it does not contain at least one symbol as shown in the label.
The following settings have been added / amended within a new section labelled Password Reset Settings:
Password Reuse - where ticked, a value is entered to determine the amount of times a user cannot repeat a previously used password. For example if the value is 4 (default) the user cannot change their password to a previously used password for the next 4 occasions they change their password.
Benefits
The introduction of new settings provides you with the ability to further strengthen password security. The changes to the layout provide a more logical location of settings within the password policy page.
Configuration
The Password Policy is located by selecting the main Maintenance menu in the left hand panel. Password Policy tile is displayed in the Security Section at the top of the page.
