Create a BPME Global Rule

1

Open the BPME tool by selectin Maintenance > BPME in the Maintenance module.

The BPME Maintenance screen is displayed.

2

Within the Hierarchy panel on the left hand side of the screen, navigate to the Global level. Click on the record type required.

For example, to create a condition for a field in the Client record 'Client' would be selected in the global hierarchy.

Existing rules display in the Rule List on the right hand panel.

3

Right mouse click on the record type and select Add Rule.

The Add Rule screen is displayed, with the Rule tab selected by default.

By default the Active checkbox is ticked. Where this item is un-ticked, the Field Rule item will not run.

4

Enter the name of the rule in the Rule Name field.

The Rule Name is displayed in the Rule List when the item has been saved.

5

Find the Field Rule item by clicking on the drop down arrow.

A list of fields available to apply conditions to for the Record Type are displayed.

6

Click on the Field Rule item to apply.

The selected field is displayed.

7

Apply the Trigger by using the drop down arrow and selecting the item required.

The selected Trigger is displayed.

The Trigger is the event that prompts the rule to run. For example, where the condition is that the 'Industry' field is mandatory, where the record user selects 'Ok' or 'Save' the rule will run.

8

Where a comparison rule is required, apply an Operator by using the drop down arrow and selecting the item required.

The selected Operator displays.

For example, where the rule is to apply when Field Rule 'Grade' is equal to 1, then the Operator would be 'Equal'. See below for character expression operators where 'Mask' or 'Like' are selected.

NOTE: The ‘Like’ and ‘Not Like’ operators uses a ‘starts with logic’, so will match where the values entered is at the beginning or fully matches the item.

9

Where it is mandatory for the user to complete the field item, select the Mandatory check box.

10

Apply the Action by using the drop down arrow and selecting the item required.

The selected Action displays.

The Action determines if the record user is able to save the record. Where 'Don't Save' is selected, the user will not be able to save the record. Where 'Warn Only' is selected the user can save the record.

11

Where a comparison rule is required, and an Operator has been applied, enter or select the Value.

The Value selected or entered displays.

The Value field type is determined by the Field Rule and Operator selected. For example, where the Field Rule item is 'Industry' and the Operator is 'Equal', the Value field displays all Industry Codes as a picklist. If the Operator is a group item like 'In' or 'Not In' the Value field displays all Industry Codes as a multi-select item.

12

Enter the message required in the Message field.

The message entered displays.

Where the Field Rule conditions are met, the message is displayed to the record user.

13

Select Save.

The rule is saved.

The Save action is not enabled until all mandatory fields within the rule have been completed.

Where the 'Operator' is 'Like' or 'Mask', the Value field is editable and character expressions can be utilised to further describe the condition required. Within this field the character operators described below can be applied:
