Important Information About Rounding on eInvoices

To provide a high level of precision, FastTrack360 calculates and stores monetary amounts to a maximum of six decimal places. Rounding can be applied based on Billing Company rounding settings to determine how invoice amounts are to be rounded at the point of invoice data generation and then also at the document format level. That can lead to rounding differences on invoices. For example, if the invoice line sub totals and tax amounts that are shown on an invoice are summed manually, the resulting amount may not be an exact match to the invoice total due to a rounding difference.

By comparison, the PEPPOL standard supports monetary amounts with a maximum accuracy of two decimal places and also applies validation to ensure that an invoice balances to exactly two decimal places. If amounts on an invoice do not balance exactly to two decimal places, the invoice is rejected by the PEPPOL network and therefore the invoice cannot be delivered via eInvoicing.

To prevent invoice delivery failure, FastTrack360 may inject a maximum of three rounding lines into an eInvoice if necessary to ensure that the invoice balances. The rounding lines are as follows:

  • Invoice Item Rounding Line - this is injected if it is necessary to balance a rounding difference between the sum of invoice item sub totals and the overall invoice totals

  • Tax Rounding Line - this is injected if it is necessary to balance a rounding difference between tax amounts at the invoice item level and the overall invoice tax amount

  • Tax Rounding Line Offset - this adds a non-taxable invoice item that negates an amount that is equal to the sub-total of the tax rounding line, thereby allowing the tax amounts on the invoice to balance without affecting the invoice totals.

Irrespective of the automatic injection of rounding lines, it is recommended that the Billing Company Rounding Settings be set to round to two decimal places for the invoice sub total (exc. tax), invoice sub total (inc. tax) and invoice tax total amounts for all billing companies that will issue eInvoices.
