Enabling Payments to a Payee After Termination
Except for adjustment pays for periods during which a payee was employed, it is not possible to process payments for a payee whose employment has been terminated and their employment end date falls before the start of the current pay period.
However, a payee who was receiving workers' compensation payments from an insurer prior to their employment ending may continue to receive compensation payments from the insurer through payroll even after their employment has ceased.
To enable the ability to make payments to a payee for periods after their employment end date, tick the WorkCover Payments After Termination field in the header of the Payroll > Payee > Payee Entry screen, as highlighted in the example below.
The WorkCover Payments After Termination field is available only if an employment end date has been recorded, either by adding the end date directly on the Payee record or due to a termination as part of the pay batch process.
Once the WorkCover Payments After Termination field is ticked, when a pay batch is created for the payee’s pay group for the current (open) pay period the payee will be included in the pay batch even if their employment end date predates the start date of the period, unless the Only Include Payees With Timesheets option is selected when the pay batch is created, even if the start date of the period being paid is after the payee’s employment end date. That allows any payments that need to be paid forward to the payee to be added as manual pay items in the pay batch.
When it is no longer necessary to make payments to the terminated payee, the WorkCover Payments After Termination field can be un-ticked to prevent the payee from being included in any future pay batches.
Adjustment pays for periods during which the payee was employed are always possible irrespective of whether the WorkCover Payments After Termination field is ticked. Therefore, it is not necessary to tick the WorkCover Payments After Termination field to process an adjustment pay for a period during which the payee was working.
