Time Rounding Rules

A time rounding rule is used to determine if and how the time keyed against a shift on a timesheet should be rounded if the duration of the shift does not correspond to a whole unit of pay. The time rounding rules affect the time that will be used for pay/bill calculation only and do not alter the timesheet itself.

One time rounding rule can be created for each primary interpretation header belonging to an agreement.

Note that if the Compare to Job Schedule option is enabled in the pay agreement header, a time rounding rule applies to time worked within the job schedule only. How time worked outside the job schedule is rounded is determined by an hour rounding rule. Alternatively, if the same time rounding is to be applied to time worked within and outside the job schedule, an hour rounding rule can be used to define the rounding parameters and a time rounding rule need not be defined.

To create a time rounding rule, you must define the rule type and interval. The rule type identifies the type of rounding to be applied. This can be one of the following:

  • None (default setting) – no time rounding will be applied.

  • Forward – time will be rounded up to the nearest interval.

  • Backward – time be rounded down to the nearest interval.

  • Nearest – time will be rounded up or down depending on the nearest interval.

The interval identifies the factor by which the time will be rounded. This can be one of the following:

  • None (default setting) – no time rounding will be applied.

  • 5 Minutes – time will be rounded to 5 minute intervals.

  • 10 Minutes – time will be rounded to 10 minute intervals.

  • 15 Minutes – time will be rounded to 15 minute intervals.

  • 30 Minutes – time will be rounded to 30 minute intervals.

  • 60 Minutes – time will be rounded to 60 minute intervals.

For example, if the rule type is set to Forward and the interval is set to 60 Minutes, the following results would be achieved depending on the start and end times keyed against a shift:
