How to Edit an Existing Master Page
All attributes of an existing master page, with the exception of the display code, can be edited if necessary. To edit an existing master page, follow the procedure below.
1. | If not already open, open the Master Pages screen by clicking Maintenance > Questionnaire > Style Sheet. The Master Pages screen opens, listing the existing master pages. | Â |
2. | Within the list of master pages in the Master Pages screen, click the view action next to the master page you want to edit. Note that you can filter the list of existing master pages if necessary to help you find the master page you want to edit. The master page opens for editing in the Master Page Entry screen.
3. | If you want to rename the master page, type a new name in the Name field. | Â |
4. | If you want to make the master page the default master page, click the Default field so that it displays a tick. Note that if the master page is already the default you cannot deselect the Default option. Instead you must edit another master page record in order to flag that master page as the default. | Â |
5. | Edit the styling / appearance of the master page if necessary by importing a new CSS. | Â |
6. | Link the master page to additional categories and external references if necessary or remove any existing links to categories and external references if necessary. | Â |
7. | Click Save. The Master Page is saved. |
How to Edit the File used for appearance / styling
The appearance of an existing master page can be edited by editing the code on which the master page is based. To do this, the existing style sheet code must be exported by selecting Export CSS out of the Questionnaire Maintenance application as a file and saved to a location on a file directory. The file can then be opened, edited and re-imported into the master page record.
To perform this process, follow the procedure below. The procedure assumes that the relevant master page is open for editing in the Master Page Entry screen.
1. | At the top of the Master Page Entry screen click Export CSS. A Windows Save As dialog box opens.
2. | Using the dialog box, navigate to the file location where you want to export the file and type the name under which the file will be saved in the File name field. | Â |
3. | Click Save. The dialog box closes and the file is saved to the selected file location. | Â |
4. | Open the file from the file location to which you exported it, edit the file as required and save it. | Â |
5. | At the top of the Master Page Entry screen click Import CSS.
6. | Using the dialog box, navigate to the file folder where the exported file is located, select the relevant file and click Open. The Open dialog box closes and the selected file is imported from the file location. | Â |
How to Edit the Category and External Reference Links
An existing master page can be linked to additional categories and external references in order to make the master page applicable to more questionnaire pages. Any existing category and external reference links can also be removed, thereby preventing the master page from being applied to questionnaire pages to which it was originally applicable.
The References section within the Master Page Entry screen for existing master pages shows the categories and external references within each category to which a master page is currently linked. An arrow icon without a circle is displayed in the References field next to any category to which the master page is linked. Clicking the arrow expands the corresponding category to show the external references within that category to which the master page is linked.
An example of this is shown below, whereby a master page is linked to the Office category and an external reference within that category called Melbourne Office.
To link an existing master page to an additional category and external reference(s) within the category, follow the procedure below. The procedure assumes that the relevant master page is open for editing in the Master Page Entry screen.
1. | In the References field, click the category to which you want to link the master page or to which you want add external references links. The category is selected. | Â |
2. | Near the top of the References field, click the Add action. A search dialog box opens, allowing you to search for an external reference depending on the category you selected.
3. | In the Search section at the top of the dialog box, type or select as much information about the specific external reference(s) to which the new master page will be linked and click . Note that the search fields available depend on the category that is selected and are the same as those available when linking a questionnaire page to external references within a category. Alternatively, just click to list all external references within the selected category. The list of objects in the bottom half of the dialog box lists the matching external references or all external references respectively. | Â |
4. | Click Select. |
To delete a link to a specific external reference within a category, follow the procedure below. The procedure assumes that the relevant master page is open for editing in the Master Page Entry screen.
1. | In the References section, click the arrow next to the category name to which the external reference belongs. The category is expanded to show the external references within the category to which the master page is linked. | Â |
2. | Under the expanded category, click the external reference that is to be unlinked. The external reference is selected. | Â |
3. | Near the top of the References field, click the delete action. The selected external reference is deleted, thereby unlinking the master page from that external reference. |
Note that you can also delete all links to all linked categories, and therefore all external references within each linked category, simultaneously by clicking the Delete (Delete All References) action near the top of the References field.
