Conditional variables are additional conditions used to determine which rules and conditions of an agreement are to be applied and when the rules and conditions can be applied. They are custom-defined to suit the specific requirements of an agreement.
To understand how conditional variables are used, consider the following scenario:
A nurse can be classified as a Grade 1, Grade 2 or Grade 3 nurse. According to the applicable bill agreement, each of these classifications attracts a different bill rate based on the corresponding level of experience and expertise. A single bill rate rule may be defined within the bill agreement to define the applicable bill rate. However, because there is more than one bill rate depending on the classification, a conditional variable can be used to define the classification level to which each bill rate applies.
When applying a bill agreement to a job order, any conditional variables that apply to an agreement are listed when an agreement is selected in the Recruitment Manager > Job Order > Pay/Bill > Add Rates > Edit Pay Agreement > Add Rates screen, as highlighted in the example below.

Each conditional variable has a unique name (for example: Nurse Classification) and one or more values (Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3). A conditional variable can also be flagged as mandatory, in which case the user applying the agreement to a job order via the Assign Pay Agreement/Assign Bill Agreement screen in Recruitment Manager must select a value for the conditional variable before the system will allow the agreement to be applied to the job order.
On selecting a bill agreement and selecting values for any of the conditional variables that apply to the pay agreement, the name of the agreement and the applicable conditional variables and corresponding values are listed in the Recruitment Manager > Job Order > Pay/Bill > Add Rates screen as highlighted below.
